THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MISSOULA HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG
WARNING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITIES...WHICH IS IN EFFECT
FROM 2 PM SATURDAY TO MIDNIGHT MDT SATURDAY NIGHT. THE FIRE
WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* WINDS: SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH
  HIGHER GUSTS BY EARLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. RIDGETOPS AND ANY
  EXPOSED ELEVATIONS WILL SEE GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH. WINDS WILL SHIFT
  TO THE WEST AND NORTHWEST DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING
  AND DECREASE.

* MINIMUM HUMIDITIES: 10 TO 15 PERCENT IS EXPECTED. HUMIDITY
  RECOVERY SATURDAY EVENING WILL BE GOOD.

* THUNDERSTORMS: ISOLATED MAINLY DRY THUNDERSTORMS.

This just in from Bill Fordyce . . .

The Forest Service is going to close Whale Creek Road due to the run the Marston Fire made.   Apparently, they are worried it might cross the Whitefish Divide.

Today and tomorrow are going to be bad fire weather days.   At 10:33 am a Red Flag warning was issued for tomorrow (Saturday, August 29) with 45mph winds and 10% relative humidity.

The National Weather Service posted a red flag warning for this afternoon, July 22, due to gusty winds and very low humidities. It runs from 3pm to 9pm . . .

* SYNOPSIS: A SURGE OF VERY DRY AIR ALONG WITH STRONG AND GUSTY
  WESTERLY WINDS WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTHWEST MONTANA THIS
  AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. THIS DRY AND BREEZY WEATHER
  COUPLED WITH FUELS HAVING RETURNED TO VERY HIGH TO LOCALLY
  EXTREME CONDITIONS... NOT TO MENTION A FEW WILDFIRES ALREADY ON
  THE GROUND... A RED FLAG WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED.

* WINDS: SUSTAINED 15-20 MPH WITH GUSTS 20-30 MPH (LOCALLY
  HIGHER) FOR SEVERAL HOURS.

* MINIMUM HUMIDITIES: 10-15% VALLEYS AND 12-18% RIDGES

* TIMING: 1500-2100

  SOMETIME AFTER ROUGHLY 1900LT ACROSS THE GLACIER PARK AREA ON

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL
CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.

“Red Flag” warning up for Lolo, Flathead, Kootenai forests & Glacier Park

A “Red Flag” fire weather warning has been posted for the Flathead/Glacier area as well as the general region. Basically, the weather service is calling for hot, dry conditions with a chance of dry lightening from thunderstorms passing through the area. Here’s the text:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MISSOULA HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG
WARNING FOR THUNDERSTORMS…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO
MIDNIGHT MDT TONIGHT. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN
EFFECT.

* WINDS: OUTFLOW WIND GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH FROM NEARBY STORMS.
