‘Flathead Forest Friday’ meeting focuses on the Forest Plan Revision

It’s time for another “Flathead Forest Friday” meeting. The next one is on Friday, May 1, at the Nite Owl Café in Columbia Falls. They’ll be talking about the Forest Plan Revision. The official press release has the details . . .

The Flathead National Forest has released for public comment the proposed action for the revision of the land and resource management plan (forest plan) as directed by the National Forest Management Act. The public is invited to learn about and discuss the forest plan revision process during the next Flathead Forest Friday on May 1, 2015 at the Nite Owl Café located at 522 9th St. West (US Hwy. 2) in Columbia Falls., Montana. The no-host breakfast chat starts at 7:00 AM.

The proposed action for the revised forest plan includes management direction to support a variety of proposed and possible actions that may occur on the plan area over the next ~15 years, or life of the plan. Concurrently, the forest is releasing an amendment to integrate the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE) Grizzly Bear Conservation Strategy (“strategy”) into the forest plans for the Helena, Kootenai, Lewis and Clark, and Lolo National Forests. The Flathead National Forest is incorporating the relevant portions of the strategy as part of its plan revision process.

Every other month, the Forest Service will coordinate these no-host breakfast meetings at a local restaurant with the goal of sharing good food, great company, and a little information about what’s happening on our National Forest. We hope the event will be a great way to discuss public land management opportunities and challenges that are important to us all.

If you plan to attend or have questions, please notify Public Affairs Officer Colter Pence at cfpence@fs.fed.us or (406) 758-5252. Your response allows us to plan accordingly with the restaurant.

Next Flathead Forest Friday meeting focuses on partnerships

The local Forest Service office is still doing their Flathead Forest Friday meetings every couple of months. With the big push for the development of a new forest plan, the focus of the upcoming meeting is on partnerships. Here’s the press release . . .

It has been a year since we started our casual breakfast chats known as Flathead Forest Fridays. We’ve talked with people about our recreation program, avalanche center, work on our four ranger districts, plan revision and whatever else was on our guest’s minds. We believe these chats are a great way to have an open dialog and stay connected to the forest users, protectors, and champions. Thank you for the support.

This month we want to talk about partnerships. Everyone is invited to join us for the July Flathead Forest Friday breakfast with Flathead National Forest Staff Officer Gary Danczyk and others at the Perkins Restaurant (1390 U.S. 2, Evergreen, Montana) starting at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013.

This is an opportunity to discuss how partnerships allow us to do work we could not otherwise accomplish; give us an opportunity to be a good neighbor and part of the community; and create opportunities to improve programs where we may have the knowledge and desire but not the resources. We also want to hear your ideas about possible opportunities to create new partnerships.

Flathead Forest Friday breakfast at the Nite Owl, Friday, Nov 16

We got a  note today from Wade Muehlhof, Public Affairs Officer for the Flathead National Forest, announcing a “Flathead Forest Friday” breakfast at the Nite Owl in Columbia Falls on Friday, November 16. The idea is to let folks know what is going on in the district and to respond to questions and comments. It sounds like they are planning to make this a regular, every two months event. Here’s the official notice  . . .

Please help spread the word in the North Fork!

Come meet and greet the new Hungry Horse/Glacier View District Ranger Rob Davies at the November Flathead Forest Friday breakfast on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Nite Owl on Highway 2 in Columbia Falls.

In addition to Ranger Davies, Spotted Bear District Ranger Deb Mucklow will be available for information and questions.  Deb will provide an overview of this summer’s work on the Spotted Bear district and the fires in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, but mostly we want to hear your questions and find out what is on your mind.

The Flathead National Forest will coordinate a no-host breakfast meeting every-other month with the goal of sharing good food, great company, and a little information about what’s happening on our National Forest.

I hope you will join Rangers Davies and Mucklow for our November Flathead Forest Friday breakfast at the Nite Owl.  If you plan to attend or have any questions, please notify Public Affairs Officer Wade Muehlhof at ewmuehlhof@fs.fed.us or (406) 758-5252 by November 14.

(By the way, I’m pretty sure “no-host breakfast” means everyone pays for their own meal.)
